Etude House Play Color Eyes #2 So Chic Play

Hallo hallo!

How is everyone? Today I want to show you swatches of one of Etude's recently released eyeshadow palettes. Etude House don't tend to produce multiple shade palettes, so I was pretty excited when they released two 10 shade palettes late last year, as part of their Play Color collection.

Anyways, it was pretty much lust at first sight when I saw the Play Color Eyes set in So Chic Play. I thought the set looked really cute with a combination of both neutral shades and fun glitter shades.

So Chic Play has a slightly more girlie and feminine feel compared to the other set, which has more daring and smokey, sophisticated shades.

Here's what the palette looks like opened. As you can see, the silver glittery shade broke up en route to me T_T

I think the glitter shades are more delicate, as they aren't the same texture as the matte eyeshadows, and tend to separate more easily.

I also noticed that a number of the eye shadows don't appear completely attached to the base of the palette. Based on that I wouldn't say that these palettes are good for travelling, unless you depot the shadows and super glue them back into the palette for security. Considering this palette retails at around $20-24USD, I'm a bit disappointed that the packaging's a bit shonky.

It's a very 'petite' palette~

However the loose pans are the only bad part about this palette. The eyeshadows themselves are all decent quality in terms of pigmentation and texture.

There are 4 matte shades, 1 shimmer shade, and 5 glitter shades. The matte and shimmer shades are smooth, have little fallout, and have nice pigmentation. And the glitter shades aren't the tacky, chunky flake kind. They do need to be layered over a base shade first for best effect, as the glitters are quite fine - but they provide a really pretty sparkle on the eyelids, without being overly glittery.

1.Coco Brown 2.Clutch Brown 3.Pop Champagne 4.French Kiss 5.Misty Rose 6.Diva 7.Glam Forest  8.Midnight Star 9.Sparkling Wine 10.Leopard Brown

Diva is the only shimmer shade in the palette. French Kiss I use a lot as my base shade, however I can see that it might not show up well on medium to darker skin tones. The glittery shades work best layered over a coloured base (preferably in a similar shade), but can be used on their own too, but you'd need to layer a bit.

Sparkling Wine layered over French Kiss is really stunning - it's probably my fave combo in the palette so far!

I think the only thing missing here is a lighter brown or gold shade - a matte version of Pop Champagne would've been awesome as a base shade I think. Other than that, I think all the shades are decent quality and are very pretty colours.

Overall, So Chic Play is a very pretty palette. I personally like it a lot, though I do think it's a little overpriced. I don't consider it a must have, but I'm glad I bought it as it's motivating me to play with different eye makeup looks, instead of my usual brown neutrals. And you can never go wrong with a little bling on the eyelids ^_^

Here are some fotds.

  3. The palette is so small! Haha! Too bad one shade broke. :S
I really like the color combos on this palette though. Super cute pairings you did!

  4. Oh gosh the palette really is small! Lol I thought it would be a lot larger, but I guess not. Too bad one of the shades broke though :( I really like the colors of this palette but since I don't tend to wear eye makeup that much I usually pass on things like this. It's a bit expensive for such a small palette, but Sparkling Wine is an absolutely gorgeous color ^^

  6. It sounds like your palette really got banged up a lot. :( Mine took around 3.5 weeks to get to me from overseas during Christmas and I was happy it wasn't broken up and very surprised actually, though I did also receive a used palette from BNK. I like the colors a lot, but I think they're not so easy to blend with the glittery ones. I love the glitter payoff though. =)

  7. It sounds like a good palette if the price would have been a bit lower and the packaging should have been packed better T__T I honestly think that the price is too high for the not so sturdy packaging. But the colors look so pretty for blossom make up or special occasion make up *-*

  9. It's a shame that you got a breakage in transit. :( The colours are gorgeous, though. Clutch Brown and Pop Champagne are particularly beautiful.

  10. Aww, I can't believe your order went missing! I think the Naked 3 looks amazing though, with all those pretty pink shades! Yeah, I think this is a bit overpriced considering the size of the palette, but since I'm getting use out of it, it's ok ^_^

  11. Yeah it is! But I guess at least it's not too bulky hehe. I was really attracted to the colour combos too, they're all quite fun and feminine :P

  12. Yeah it's quite small and compact! For this price I would've liked a bigger palette hehe. I was worried about whether I would get much use out of this too, since I normally wear very simple eye makeup, but I couldn't resist the pretty colours!

  13. Aww thank you Rini - but I think you have the most amazing selcas yourself!
It's definitely on the pricey side for Etude >_< But since I don't have any palettes like this already it was a treat for me to get it :P

  14. It must've been! Though it seemed sufficiently packaged 0_o
A lot of the colours are shades I don't really use so it's fun to try something new. I wasn't sure how to use the glittery shades, so I just pat them on with the applicator :P

  15. Agreed! Despite being a very pretty palette I wouldn't have guessed this palette could cost $20+ But it was a treat for myself so I didn't mind paying that price :P

  16. Yeah, and I thought it odd since it seemed sufficiently packaged! But oh well, I managed to salvage most of it ^_^
Pop Champagne caught my eye first when it came out!

  17. Glad I could help you make up your mind ^_^

  18. My parcel wasn't bubble wrapped and surprising that my palette shadows does not broke..o.o

Love this eyeshadows because the brown color is more pigmented than the &rose version.

So agree with you about the pan.its kinda loose though

  19. Wow, that's pretty lucky! Or maybe mine was already broken before it was mailed? I'm glad I got this one rather then the &rose one - I quite like all these glittery shades ^_^

  20. The glittery shades are quite delicate! Aww, thank you!
