My Makeup Collection Mini Series: Cheeks (blush & illuminators)

Hello sweets, hope you're all enjoying your weekend! Here's the next instalment in my Makeup Collection Series - I posted about all my eye makeup recently, and today's post we're moving further down to cheek makeup, which is my blush and illuminator collection~

I used to gravitate towards soft dolly pink shades, but my blush collection has expanded a lot, and now I have oranges, corals, and deeper pinks to play with too. I still tend to stick with pink or peachy pink shades, but I do love to be a little different now and then. When I want something different I usually reach for orangey coral shades, which is a lot of fun but still very wearable.

Anywho, here's my cream blusher collection. I tend to favour cream blushers more simply because I tend to have a more dewier base, so I find the creamy texture 'melds' better into my skin compared to powdery blushers. But I do think powder blushers are faster and easier to apply, lol.

Top row: EH Peach Sugar Cake, Models Prefer Tickled Pink, MUA Bittesweet, MUA Blossom

Bottom row: EH Raspberry Mousse Cake, Strawberry Chiffon Cake, Orange Choux Cake, Blueberry Cheese Cake

Most of my cream blusher collection comprises of the Etude House Cupcake All Over Colours (reviewed here), which I adore for the lovely colours, smooth texture, and super cute packaging. I use Peach Sugar Cake and Strawberry Chiffon Cake the most, as they're so wearable, but I think Orange Choux Cake is my favourite colour overall.

The MUA cream blushers I highly recommend, especially Bittersweet which is a gorgeous vibrant dolly pink. Don't let the vibrancy of the colour scare you, it's definitely easy to blend down to a more wearable natural pink.  The texture's smooth, pigmentation's great, and the price can't be beaten.

Right, moving along to my powder blushers now~

Top: Physician's Formula Mineral Glow Pearls Blush, Etude House Cookie Blusher in Grapefruit Jelly & Carrot Cheesecake
Middle: Holika Hello Holika #1, MUA Blushers in Shade ? & 1, MUA Shimmer Kisses
Bottom: Arbonne Blush in Apricot, Models Prefer Desk to Date, Covergirl Trublend Minerals 425

There are a few duds in here for me. I normally like to google reviews of makeup I'm interested in before buying, but sometimes I forget, or sometimes I buy on impulse, and that usually comes back to bite me, lol. The Physician's Formula Blush is probably my biggest regret - I bought it during a 40% off sale, and since it's the 2nd most expensive blush I've ever paid for I automatically assumed it'd be a gorgeous blush. But yep, I was wrong, I was really disappointed with it!

I don't really love the MUA Shimmer Kisses compact either - it's a kinda 'meh' pigmentation and colour for me. The CG blush I've never even used T_T It's quite shimmery, and not very pigmented, but other than that I don't mind the $5 I paid for it.

On the upside, the rest of the blushers I really do like, or even adore - my most used blushers are the MUA Shade 1 (a pretty peachy pink shade), Etude House Cookie Blusher in Grapefruit Jelly (a wearable everyday pink), and the EH blusher in Carrot Cheesecake and the Hello Holika pacts satisfy my orange/coral cheek obsession.

L-R: Etude House Carrot Cheesecake, Holika Hello Holika, MUA Shade 1, Etude House Grapefruit Jelly

So that concludes my blusher collection! Now I want to show you my other cheek makeup, which is my highlighters and illuminators. Being a big fan of the glowy dewy look I've managed to accumulate a few items to help me cheat that look.

Top: Etude House Aloha V-line Slim maker, Holika Hello Holika, Essence Circus Circus Highlighter

Again, I tend to prefer liquid type highlighters as they seem to work better on my dewier bb creams, but I do have an even mix of liquid and powder highlighters in my possession. I don't have a preference for gold or silvery pink toned highlighters, though I guess gold ones would suit my complexion better.

The stand-out products for me are the Lioele Shimmer Base, which I raved about many months ago, and which I still love. It just sinks into the skin so naturally and prettily, while my fave powder highlighter would be the Etude House Aloha pact, simply because the Essence one is a teeny bit more glittery in comparison.

...and that's the end of the blog post. Hehe, hope it wasn't too long of a read!

If you haven't already you can check out the tour of my dressing table post here, and the post on all my eye make-up products here. The next instalment in this series will be on lips, which should be an interesting one as I have a tonne of lip products!

But for now thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed this post ^_^

Don't forget to enter my Etude House giveaway here, it ends in 5 days time!

What blushers or highlighters are you using/loving right now? Do you gravitate to the same colours or do like having lots of choice?

  3. What a lovely collection! I love seeing Etude House pieces in your collection as they're always so cute! I have a fair amount of blushers too but I tend to stick to peachy/coral ones at the moment which I tend to do in the summer. In winter it's dolly pinks ^^

  10. Haha, I'm a bit of a shopaholic >_<
I have dry cheeks too, so before I put on any makeup I have a good skincare routine first - maybe try a good facial oil or moisturiser beforehand. As for my blush recommendations, I think the Etude House cookie blusher in grapefruit jelly is a really nice one for everyday wear :)

  18. So much Etude House *-*, and I wasn't really expecting so many cheek products!
Peach Sugar Cake is beautiful, and it's definitely going on my t-buy list!

I haven't seen that Holika compact around yet (maybe I just didn't see it), but the time time I go to the Holika Holika store I'll be on the lookout for it! (Unless it is limited edition, then I'll be sad)
