Hi lovelies! These Max Factor Giant Pen Sticks have recently hit Australian stores, and I picked up a couple to try, because they are a super affordable $9.95! Actually Priceline is currently having a buy one get one promo, so that's even better :)
I haven't tried any of the other big lip pen products from other brands yet, so I can't compare, but I am really liking these Max Factor ones - they're fun looking, fun to apply, and the colours are super-duper cute.
The packaging is fairly simple, with clear plastic lids and a coloured end representing the colour of the lipstick. These pen sticks require you to sharpen them manually - a small price to pay, considering the retail price of these!
Formula wise, these pen sticks are a bit balmy so they glide onto the lips pretty effortlessly. The pigmentation is excellent, as good as regular lipsticks I'd say, and probably more comfortable to wear too. They don't have any fragrance that I can detect, so that's nice.

The formula doesn't feel drying or sticky, it lasts at least 2-3 hours, and the brighter/deeper colours tend to leave behind a pretty stain instead of disappearing.
The only thing I dislike about these pen sticks is that it requires some effort to have perfectly even lips, and it takes more than one coat to have the same layer of colour over the whole area. The first time I tried these, I decided to outline my lips before filling in, and the outline ended up much darker and obvious than the inner lip area, which was not a good look. So just take care to make sure the colour is even everywhere when you apply them!
Couture Blush is definitely a colour that I can see will be very popular - it's a really wearable soft pink colour that's perfect for daily wear. This tends to wear off more easily compared to the two other colours I have, and won't leave much of a coloured lip stain effect.
Vibrant Pink really scared me at first because I'm not used to wearing very bright coloured lips but I wanted to challenge myself, and I ended up really liking this colour! It's not something I'd reach for often, but I love how almost neon pink it is, and it's a really fun colour to wear~
I'm actually surprised by how much I love this colour!
Designer Blossom is also a colour I was unsure of at first, but I'm definitely trying to be more open to new colours in my make-up collection, and I thought it was a pretty colour when I swatched it in-store, so I gave it a chance. It's more pigmented on my lips than shown on the arm swatch, so this colour can be worn sheer or heavy depending on your preference. I had to apply it heavy because I needed to get the colour even, so I ended up doing a few layers ^_^
I think Designer Blossom looks more glossy on the lips compared to the other two colours. And also it leaves behind a hot pink stain instead of a peachy-red stain, which is kind of interesting!
These Max Factor Giant Pen Sticks actually exceeded my expectations, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these - they're so affordable, and have a really nice texture that makes them a breeze to apply. And who doesn't like a lipstick disguised as a crayon!
Have you got any pen/crayon lip products in your collection right now? Or do you prefer the traditional lipstick shapes?
Thanks for reading!
