Etude House CC Cream 'Glow' Review (AKA white lie make-up!)

Etude House CC Cream Glow Review

Hi loves!

Today I'm reviewing one of Korea's hottest beauty items of 2013. It's the next generation of BB Creams - the CC Cream!

Like bb creams, cc creams has a few names, but it's mainly being called colour control creams, or correct and care creams. They don't have the coverage of bb creams, but they do still have the skincare benefits, focusing on correcting skin concerns through special technology using multi-functioning capsules found in the cream.

I've heard it being cheekily referred to as a 'white lie' item, because not only is the cc cream white in appearance, but also because after application the skin looks absolutely natural and void of any make-up, yet it looks brighter and more even. It's like having a naked face, but more perfected :P

- CLAIMS -

Etude House claims their version of cc cream is an 8 in 1 multifunctional skincare and make-up item, that will provide natural coverage make-up. Some of these functions include hydration, brightening, concealing, and anti-wrinkle care.

They have two versions - silky (natural and 'fluffy' coverage) or glow (moist and glowy coverage). So if you want dewy and glowy skin go glow, if you like more matte and natural skin go silky.

- PACKAGING -

Cute and girlie, as is most of Etude's packaging ^_^

Etude House CC Cream Glow Review

Similar to their bb creams, the cc cream comes in a pale pink plastic tube with a pump function nozzle. The cc cream comes in smaller packaging - 35 grams only, compared to their 60 gram bb cream.

Description and Ingredients

I purchased mine off Cosmetic Love at around $15-16, and you can find them on ebay for similar prices too.

- SHADE & TEXTURE -

The Etude CC Cream is white in colour, and upon closer inspection I can see many tiny greyish beads within the formula. These are capsules, which contain colour pigments, as well as skin care functions.

Can you see the teeny grey-purple capsules within the cream?

Once you start blending the cream onto your skin the capsules burst, allowing the colour pigments out.

The texture is lighter and less creamy than bb creams. It feels extremely lightweight on the skin -  I can't feel it on my skin at all!

- SCENT & COVERAGE -

The scent is vaguely floral-ish, but it's quite a mild scent which I don't notice upon application.

CC creams don't have much coverage, because they're all about giving a perfect 'naked' skin look, so I bought this knowing the coverage wasn't going to cut it for me.

They're being marketed towards girls who have reasonably good skin, clear of blemishes. CC creams focus more on correcting (but not entirely covering) a little bit of pigmentation, redness, or uneven skin tone.

Now onto the part I hate most - before and after pics!

Today was a good day to do these pics, cos my skin was truly awful this morning, with lots of redness T_T

But at least that means I can show you guys exactly what effect the cc cream has on blemished skin.

I have a lot of redness and acne scarring so the correcting aspect of this cc cream focused more on evening my general complexion and brightening it, but my redness and blemishes still remained quite apparent. I still needed bb cream over the top for adequate coverage, but those with good skin will be just fine with cc cream only.

- FINAL THOUGHTS -

I was super impressed with the technology put into this cc cream formula - it adapted to my skin very well, and brightened and evened the complexion nicely, while making it look as if there was no make-up on my face at all. And my gosh, it feels super lightweight on the skin - so comfy!

However, the concealing function of this cc cream was not satisfactory enough that I would switch from using bb creams. I think those who don't need the coverage of bb creams but still want some light make-up would enjoy trying out a cc cream, but the rest of us girls with more skin concerns will most likely benefit more from staying with bb creams!

I prefer to use this cc cream as an illuminating base, and an extra layer of SPF protection ^^

Hope this review was helpful! Are any of you trying cc creams right now?

  2. Haha, white lie cream, what a clever name for it.

It does a really good job of smoothing out the skin tones though so I think white lie cream is a suitable name for it :)

  3. This cc cream would be great just for a basic layer, only cc cream would not be enough for me, I definitely would add some bb cream to it.

I just ordered this not too long ago, so I'm super excited to try this! Thanks for the review, even though the coverage isn't that much, I think I'll like it :D

  13. If I will ever try a CC cream I will use it as a base only, because the coverage is super light!

  14. While I like BB Creams I don't see how it was that different to foundation. I might give CC Cream a try when I've finished all the other foundations I owe haha but we might be on to ZZ cream then!
But it looks lovely on your skin, very natural looking :)

  16. I haven't had the chance to try CC creams yet but I have been seeing quite a few reviews on them recently. It seems to make a good base and if I ever get one, that's probably what I will end up using it for as well. Thanks for reviewing!

  21. I actually wanted the silky one because I have a lot of glow products already lol!
    Yep, it's definitely a low coverage product~

  22. I love it as an illuminating base, but no way can I wear it on it's own >_<
Thank you! And thanks for reading ^^

Aww, thanks! I guess I just feel bad since a lot of beauty bloggers I follow have such *extremely* nice skin >_<

  25. I'm glad my review helped! I think this particular cc cream would probably make oily skin types look more oily because of the glow part >_<

  26. Thanks for reading ^^
It's not a high coverage product, but if you've decent skin and only want to even it out or have some brightening then you'd probably like it more than I do~

  27. I love the colour changing aspect of cc creams, but they're definitely not enough for me coverage wise either~
    Thanks for reading!

  32. It's hard to see the difference between bb creams and foundations, but after nearly 2 years I can definitely say I prefer bb creams over foundations! Hehe,
    Thanks!

  35. I'm with you, I definitely will stick to bb creams for now as the coverage is the most important aspect for me~

  36. Great review! I had no idea what a cc cream was until I read this! Super helpful and I am so glad that you showed the comparison on how the product worked with a couple of layers and bb cream :)

  37. Thanks for reviewing this! :)
I think I totally agree with you! The coverage of this cc cream is so low :c I wanted to try this because of all the hype but after I saw the coverage, I think I will stay with bb creams because my skin looks really aweful atm too~
    Anyways, you're really cute *^~^

  40. This is interesting to me because I kept hearing that CC cream is for more coverage than BB creams but then recently I read that it is for girls with okay skin. I wonder if this would be better for me because I don't normally have blemishes...but all the CC creams out so far look too light. :(

Thanks for the review! Oh! Is there any oil control with CC? Thanks!

  41. Most of the Korean cc creams I've seen are light in coverage - I think there's one by the Face Shop that does seem to have better coverage than this one.
Also I'm not sure, but I think the Western CC creams may have more coverage?
    Thanks for reading!
This Glow cc cream by Etude wouldn't be good for oil control, but some of the other brands do list oil control as a benefit.

  42. You have such nice skin =) I've never tried CC creams haha but I've def tried bb creams. Thanks for posting this review!

  43. I've been wanting to try the Etude House CC cream but in the silky (?) version. This reminds me of the cc cream I'm using though! Light coverage and appears white with tiny beads.

  44. Hi!
Chanced upon your blog while searching for reviews of the etude house cc creams! ^^
The last picture in this post, your skin looks so flawless!
Is it just the application of the cc cream?

  45. Thanks ^^
The last full face pic is with 2 layers of the cc cream on, plus my fave bb cream~ This cc cream doesn't have the level of coverage I need, so I always put bb cream on top >_<

  46. Ohh! Okay thanks!! :D may I know what's your favorite bb cream?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sure, my current favourite bb cream is the Lioele triple the solution bb cream (and my 2nd fave is the Etude House bright fit bb cream) :)

  48. hi,can we use bb cream and cc cream at the same time?just like u did 2layers+bb cream .i have acne prone+oily skin.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yes you can - many cc creams feel very light on the skin, so as long as it doesn't make you feel greasy or heavy you can layer as you like. If you feel like cc cream is enough coverage, then you can skip bb cream - it's only because the cc cream doesn't have enough coverage that I like to put bb cream on top.
